Telescope Available for Checkout
Thanks to the generosity of the Greater Hazleton Area Astronomical Society, the library now has an Orion StarBlast 4.5 telescope available for checkout. Patrons may borrow the telescope for one week by asking at the Reference Desk. It can only be checked out on an adult’s library card. Borrowers will also receive an instruction manual, red light flashlight, and various stargazing maps and guides.
Board Game Night
The library is hosting a board game night for adults on Tuesday, March 17 from 6:00 – 7:30. It will take place in the library's Community Room (Green Street entrance) and it is free for all adults to attend. We will provide plenty of classic games, as well as several new ones! Participants are welcome to bring their own games as well. Please register by calling the Reference Staff at 570-454-2961, ext. 2.
Casual Book Club - Adult Program
The next casual book club meeting is Thursday, March t2 at 5:30 in the Community Room, accessible from the Green Street entrance. Bring whatever book you are currently reading to share and anything else book-related you want to discuss!
Local Author Fair
The Hazleton Area Public Library is hosting a local author fair on Saturday, April 18 from 12:00 - 2:00 in the Reference Department. It is free for all ages to attend. Both adult and children's authors from around the Northeast Pennsylvania area will be present to sell and sign copies of their newest releases, as well as answer questions from attendees. Getting Unstuck with Karen Holcomb, LSW (Rescheduled)
On Saturday, May 30 from 1:00 - 2:00, the library invites you to join licensed therapist Karen Holcomb for an informative discussion on how social media can help and harm our mental health, and how we can maintain optimal physical and mental well-being. It is free for all adults to attend and it will take place in the library’s Community Room, which is accessible from the side entrance on Green Street. March Family Board Game Night
Children of all ages accompanied by an adult family member are invited for a fun night of board games. We have a variety of different games to play. Homeschool Hour - Visit from Eckley Miners’ Village
Homeschool Hour is a program designed for homeschool families with children of all ages at the Hazleton Area Public Library. On March 17 from 1:00 - 2:00, we welcome Eckley Miners’ Village for a presentation and hands-on activity highlighting the impact that coal mining had on our region and how it shaped daily life for some of the first families to have immigrated to the area. Spring Storytime
Spring Storytime at the Hazleton Area Public Library will be held every Wednesday from March 25 through April 29 from 6:00 -- 7:00. This program is mainly for children ages 2 - 5, though children of all ages and their families are welcome to attend for joyful stories, dancing, flowery rhymes, and a colorful craft as well as time to socialize with free playtime. April LEGO Night
LEGO Night will be held on Monday, April 7 from 6:00 – 7:00. It is designed for children in grades 1 – 5. All materials will be supplied. Children will have a chance to participate in the monthly building challenge and have time for free building. Registration begins Monday, March 30.
