Telescope Available for Checkout
Thanks to the generosity of the Greater Hazleton Area Astronomical Society, the library now has an Orion StarBlast 4.5 telescope available for checkout. Patrons may borrow the telescope for one week by asking at the Reference Desk. It can only be checked out on an adult’s library card. Borrowers will also receive an instruction manual, red light flashlight, and various stargazing maps and guides.
Local Author Fair
The Hazleton Area Public Library is hosting a local author fair on Saturday, April 18 from 12:00 - 2:00 in the Reference Department. It is free for all ages to attend. Both adult and children's authors from around the Northeast Pennsylvania area will be present to sell and sign copies of their newest releases, as well as answer questions from attendees. Caregiving Panel
The Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting a Caregiving Panel on Saturday, May 2 from 11:00 - 2:00. A variety of guest speakers from various local social service agencies will present on different aspects of the caregiving experience, including meal preparation, medication management, and mental health. Refreshments will be provided, along with flyers and other handouts with helpful resources for caregivers. This program is free to attend and registration is required. Getting Unstuck with Karen Holcomb, LSW (Rescheduled)
On Saturday, May 30 from 1:00 - 2:00, the library invites you to join licensed therapist Karen Holcomb for an informative discussion on how social media can help and harm our mental health, and how we can maintain optimal physical and mental well-being. It is free for all adults to attend and it will take place in the library’s Community Room, which is accessible from the side entrance on Green Street. Spring Storytime
Spring Storytime at the Hazleton Area Public Library will be held every Wednesday from March 25 through April 29 from 6:00 -- 7:00. This program is mainly for children ages 2 - 5, though children of all ages and their families are welcome to attend for joyful stories, dancing, flowery rhymes, and a colorful craft as well as time to socialize with free playtime. April LEGO Night
LEGO Night will be held on Tuesday, April 7 from 6:00 – 7:00. It is designed for children in grades 1 – 5. All materials will be supplied. Children will have a chance to participate in the monthly building challenge and have time for free building. Registration begins Monday, March 30. Homeschool Hour– Pollinators
This Homeschool Hour will focus on the importance of pollinators. Homeschool Hour is a program designed for homeschool families with children of all ages. We will learn about the role pollinators play in the ecosystem, touch on their prehistoric existence, coexistence with humans, domestication, and the kinds of homes these fuzzy insects need and love, with participants making bee homes to support native bee populations. Teen Time - Board Games
Teen Time at the Hazleton Area Public Library invites teens in grades 6 – 12 to play board games like Scrabble and Trivia, with a sprinkle of friendly competition. Join us on April 13th from 5:30 - 7pm. Registration begins April 6th. Register by calling HAPL Youth Services Staff at 570-454-2961.
April Children’s Chess Night
This month’s chess night at the Hazleton Area Public Library will be held on Tuesday, April 14, from 6:00 - 7:00. It is open to children of all ages and playing levels, from beginner to expert. Homeschool Hour - The History of Writing
Homeschool Hour is a program designed for homeschool families with children of all ages at the Hazleton Area Public Library. This session we will look at the history of writing, from its beginnings as writing systems like cuneiform and hieroglyphics, to modern systems. We will meet on April Tuesday, 21, from 1:00 - 2:00.
