Valentine’s Day Card CraftAdults & Teens 16+
This Wednesday, February13th, come and join us at the Hazleton Area Public Library from 6:00-7:30 to craft a Valentine's Day Card. There will be two designs from which to choose. Come out and create your own customized card for that special someone. This program is free and open to the public and will take place in the Community Room (Green St emtramce). Registration is required. Please contact the library’s reference desk in person or by phone at 570-454-2961. Space is limited. The last day to register is Mon, Feb 11th.

College Planning
This adult program, the second of three in our winter financial program series will take place on Tuesday, February 19th at 1:00 in the library's Community Room (Green St entrance). The last program in this series will involve healthcare in retirement, taking place at a later date. Michael J. Oresick Jr. CFP, of Lagana Wealth Advisory Group at Janney Montgomery Scott LLC will be here to talk to those looking to learn more about what financial resources they have access to as they begin to plan to save for, and pay one’s college education. Registration for this program is required and can be made by visiting or calling the library's reference department at 570-454-2961. The last day to register is Friday, February 15th. Please note that each of the three programs in the winter financial program series is independent of one another. Signing up for one does not require attendance at the others, only the program(s) one is interested in.

Throwback Thursday
Join us for this month's Throwback Thursday film program taking place on Thursday, February 21st at 6:00. The film this month is the 1989 cult classic romantic comedy about two strangers turned friends who fail at finding love. Until that is, they give each other a chance. Registration is required and can be made by visiting or calling the reference department at 570-454-2961. The film will be shown in the Community Room (Green St entrance) of the library. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided.

Hazy Painters
On Saturday February 23 from 1:00-3:30, HAPL's Hazy Painters will be redesigning Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. This program is free and open to the public; the library provides all necessary supplies. Registration for this program is required, and can be made by visiting or calling the reference department of the library at 570-454-2961.The last day to register is Thursday, February 21st. Space is limited. The program will be held in the library's Community Room. Attendees should use the Green Street entrance of the library. All ages welcome. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

E.Z. Listening! Jazz
The Hazleton Area Public Library is thrilled to announce that the library will be hosting local jazz trio E.Z. Listening! for an evening jazz concert. This program is free and open to the public and will take place on Wednesday, February 27th at 6:00 in the Community Room (Green St entrance). Registration is required and can be made by visiting or calling the reference department of the library at 570-454-2961. Space is limited. The last day to register is Monday, February 25th. Refreshments will be provided. 

AIDS Activist Project
The Hazleton Area Public Library is pleased to announce that the library will be hosting local author, photographer, and activist Bill Bytsura for a book discussion and signing event. With his book titled The AIDS Activist Project, Bytsura set out to document the AIDS Activist movement beginning in 1988 through 1998. His book is a series of black and white portraits and written statements of AIDS Activists from around the world. Bytsura worked in Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Puerto Rico as well as many cities in the United States. Moved by the dedication and the struggle to understand and find a cure for AIDS by the group ACT UP, Bytsura set out to record the faces and names of AIDS activists. Well know activist like Anne-Christine d'Adesky, Larry Kramer, Moises Agosto and Mona Bennett are featured in this book. This program is free and open to the public. Bytsura will be at the library on Thursday, February 28th at 6:00 to discuss and sign copies of his book. Registration for this program is required, and can be made by visiting or calling the reference department at 570-454-2961.  The last day to register is Tuesday, February 26th.  Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.

Lap-sit Baby and Me
The next Lap-sit Program will take place on Thursday, February 14th at 10:30. The program is for children ages birth to 23 months. It involves stories, fingerplays, lap bounces, and songs. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. 

Saturday Family Storytime
In our Family Storytime, children ages 3 to 7, along with an adult, may join us as we read books, sing songs, and do some fun activities. Siblings may attend, too. The program will take place on Saturday, February 23rd from 10:00-11:00. Registration is required, and begins Monday, February 11th. Please call the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961 to sign up.

Little Learners
On Monday, February 18th the library will be offering a program for children in Kindergarten- 3rd grade from 6:00-7:00. Children will learn about different topics and concepts through stories, activities, playtime, and crafts. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961.

Teen Time: Chinese Calligraphy
Join us on Tuesday, February 19th from 6:00-7:30 as Mark R. Reinhart, owner and instructor at the Three Pure Rivers Studio, teaches the basics of Chinese Calligraphy. This free program is for teens in grades 7-12. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children's Department at 570-454-2961.

Teen Advisory Board
The Hazleton Area Public Library has some open spaces on our Teen Advisory Board. The board meets one Tuesday evening a month from 6:00-7:00. The board helps to plan future programs, brainstorm on how to reach out to the community, and give input on materials in the library’s Young Adult collection. Members will also have the opportunities to get volunteer hours. Board members must be high school students aged 14-18. Teens must complete an application in order to be considered for the board. Please contact the library’s Head of Youth Services, Mary Jordan, at 570-454-2961 to get an application, or for any questions.
