"Catch the Reading Bug" Summer Reading Club - Grades 1 through 8

Build a Bug Contest
Club members are asked to use their creativity and imagination to design a bug this summer. Any materials may be used. Parental help is acceptable but the bug should reflect the club member's abilities and talents. Bugs may be no larger than 12"x12"x12". Ribbons will be awarded in a variety of categories. The Build a Bug Contest will conclude on Thursday, August 7 at 3:00 PM. Please register to attend by calling the Library beginning August 4th.

June 19 2:00 PM "Bugs, Magic, and More"
Club members are invited to our kick-off program for the Summer Reading Club. Meet at Heights Terrace Elem/Middle School for a show featuring a mind-reading spider, a silly bee and Bob the Bookworm. Reg. 6/12

June 25 6:00 PM "Movie Night"
Join us for a showing of "A Bug's Life" and snacks. This movie is rated G. Reg. 6/23

June 26 10:00AM and 2:00 PM "Ladybug Bingo and Roach Coach Races"
Play a game to create your Ladybug craft plus make and race a roach coach. Reg. 6/23

July 3 "Drop-In Craft Day"
Make a patriotic craft when you visit the library today. No registration necessary.

July 4 & 5 Independence Day - Library Closed

July 10 "Diary of a Fly"
Hear the story and make a winged craft to keep. Program time to be announced. Reg. 7/7

July 16 6:00 PM "Bee Movie"
This week's feature presentation + snacks = fun. Movie is rated PG. Parents are welcome to attend. Reg 7/14

July 17 10:00 AM "Creation Station - Creepy Creatures"
An entertaining and educational look at some unique critters. Reg. 7/14

Jun24 10:00 AM & 2 PM "Bug Fest"
Come to the library and celebrate "Bug Fest". We will make several projects to take home. Reg. 7/21

July 30 6:00 PM "Antz"
Join us for the story of Z, a small worker ant with some big ideas. This film is rated PG. Parents are welcome to attend. Reg. 7/28

July 31 "Watercolor Painting"
Design and paint your own insects or use our patterns and make your own masterpiece. Program time to be announced. Reg. 7/28

August 8 Last Day to Complete Reading Log requirements and reach finisher status.

August 10 10:00 AM "Catch the Reading Bug...at Nescopeck State Park"
Join us at the Environmental Education Center for a special look at local insects. Bring your lunch for an optional picnic by the lake after the program. Please wear clothes and shoes suitable for the outdoors. Sunscreen is recommended. Class size is limited. Reg 8/4

August 14 10-11:30 AM and 1-4:00 PM Finisher's Party
An Open House Celebration for all gameboard finishers. Stop in, play games, make your own ice cream sundae and receive your certificate.

Young Adult Corner

This year's Young Adult theme is "Metamorphosis @ Your Library". It remind us of the changes in our lives. All programs listed below are for club members in grades 5-8.

July 2 6:30 PM "Dining Etiquette Jeopardy"
Are you guilty of eating with your elbows on the table? How do you tell your server you are finished? Join us for a fun look at dining etiquette. Reg. 6/30

July 23 6:30 PM "Sneaky Bird Feeder"
Bring a clean canvas sneaker to make an insect-shaped feeder. Reg. 7/21

August 6 6:30 PM "Yoga"
An instructor from the Hazleton YMCA-YWCA will be here to guide us in the practice of yoga. Please wear loose-fitting clothes and bring an exercise mat if you have one. Reg. 8/4
